I posted this fun clutch on Instagram a couple of weeks ago. My testers are done testing it and the PDF pattern is ready for purchase! The hard copy of the pattern will be ready for shipping by the end of the week too! I love this clutch because it hardly takes any fabric and it's got some fun options, all of which are included in the pattern! You can use scrappy strips (the same size as jelly roll strips if you have a few extra hanging around!), or one fat quarter to make this super snazzy clutch. This one was made with some Liberty of London and some gold metallic linen, both from CityCraft. It's hard to tell that the top part is … [Read more...]
Spring Pinwheel Potholders and Giveaway
When Anna from the Etsy store Ciao Bella Solids asked me to participate in her blog hop and blogger bundle giveaway I jumped right on it! I absolutely love working with solid colors and she let me put together a super fun and springy palette! (Pst... check out her great solids! They are all Moda Bella Solids and they are $5.49 per yard! (That's a steal!!!) If you need more than 5 yards, check with Anna because she'll make you a custom listing for just $5 per yard!) After looking at the color card I chose the following colors: From top to bottom: Horizon Blue, Sunshine, Aubergine, Raspberry, and Chartreuse (To enter to win a Fat … [Read more...]
Mini Quote Quilt
Remember the Baby Shower Invites? The baby shower came and went already! I was in charge of decorations and invitations while my good friend Karen was in charge of all the food and games. It went really well!! My goal for the decorations was to use things that were reusable so that the mom-to-be could use them in the baby's room as decorations when we were done using them at the party. She wasn't really picky, which was nice. The only direction I got was to use Pink and Gray! I had her send me a few quotes and made one of them into a little quilted canvas to hang in the room. It was my first time truly free motion quilting. Overall, it went … [Read more...]
Best Ever Cinnamon Rolls
I love recipes that I get from friends! Not only are they usually delicious and kitchen-tested, but every time I make the recipe, I think of my friend! Do you have recipes like that? (Share please!!) This recipe is one that I got from my friend Rachel. She brought these once, I tried them, and they were by far the best rolls I'd EVER had! (Loads better than Cinnabon rolls even!) Not only do they taste great but they only take 1 hour to make!!! That's not prep, rising, or baking, that's the whole amount of time from gathering ingredients to eating a warm roll covered in cream cheese frosting!! (The key is a longer proofing time for the … [Read more...]
Baby Shower Invites
I took a break from designing some new sewing patterns to make these lovely baby shower invitations for a good friend. They turned out soooo cute. She wanted to stick mostly with pink and gray. I print and cut these all at home with my Silhouette Cameo. (LOVE that thing!) It's got all the important information about the shower on a little library type card that slides into a pocket on the front. Top off the little flower embellishment with some glitter Stickles, Add some fun address labels on the envelope, and they're good to go! I'll be headed up to Dallas next weekend for the actual shower and still have all … [Read more...]
Chevron Baby Quilt
I was holding off on sharing this finished quilt until my friend got it in the mail... Then I got caught up in posting lots of other fun projects I'd finished and just remembered that I have never shared this one! This one went together fairly quickly and I love how it turned out. Only thing I'd do differently is to make sure the points of the outside chevrons don't get cut off. I didn't realize until I was just about done, and it was too late to add on some extra on the edges. I blame my lack of a nice diagram for this one! (I much prefer to work from a scaled diagram as I'm working on quilt designs.) For this one I just went with … [Read more...]
Taxi Towel Applique
I'm teaching a machine applique class soon and was working on another class sample. This might be one of my all time favorite applique projects! I drew up a little taxi in Illustrator, cut out the pieces with my Silhouette, ironed them on, and stitched them down. Here's my illustration if you want to make your own! (Download here.) My favorite part of the whole thing might be the little seed bead tail lights!! Happy Sewing! … [Read more...]
1-Hour Accent Pillow
I made some fun samples last week for a few classes I've got coming up this month! Here's the first one: This pillow looks great and is SUPER easy to make, I promise! Here's what I did. Cut three pieces for the front of the pillow: Left side strip - 6" x 20" Gathered Center Strip - 4 1/2" x WOF (44") Right side strip - 12 1/2" x 20" The center strip will be much longer than 20". To easily gather it and make it 20" long you'll make two rows of basting stitches along either side. My first row was at a 1/4" seam and the other was about 1/8" to the side of the first row. Grab your bottom threads and gently pull to gather … [Read more...]
Pincushion Swap
The Oklahoma Modern Quilt Guild is putting together a fun pincushion swap for QuiltCon. I just finished my pincusion for the swap. It was the perfect chance to use some of the mini charm packs I picked up at Quilt Market in the fall. I chose to use the Architextures line by Robert Kaufman. I love this line that Carolyn Friedlander designed! It really strikes a chord with this interior designer! I used some teeny green strips to make the grass (1/4" when finished), then pieced the little houses on some charcoal linen. The back was pieced with scraps and squares from the mini charm pack. I LOVE how it turned out! … [Read more...]
Picture Perfect in Quilt Magazine
One of my 30 Before 30 goals was to get a sewing project published in a magazine. It's about 6 weeks past my 30th birthday, and look what I got! The latest issue of Quilt Magazine! My Picture Perfect designed with Melissa Ybarra's Hello Gorgeous fabric line for Windham Fabrics is featured on page 38! This fabric was such fun to work with! It's a great blend of large and small scale prints, black and white prints, and coordinating solids! I can show you a peek, but you'll have to find the magazine at your local quilt store for the full picture and instructions! (Hence the picture of a picture.) … [Read more...]
